Another bay area, female teacher is accused of having sex with two high school male students.Jim Profit and Joanne Meltzer take lie-detector tests. Jim seems to put a lot of effort into finally getting rid of Joanne, only to then rescue her (apparently in an attempt to gain her trust or at the least study her behavior). Profit ruins a corrupt therapist who has been hypnotizing his patients and then having sex with them (one of which was Joanne). Background: Long before The Sopranos, Twin Peaks, the X-Files, or shows like Damages, there was Profit, a show that was ahead of it's time. Profit was subversively riveting, superbly cast and directed, and unlike anything we really had seen before. None of the edgy drama success stories preceding it â€" the spooky surrealism of "Twin Peaks" or paranoia of "The X-Files" â€" prepared us for Jim Profit, a criminal mastermind who kills his father, sleeps with his stepmother and spends his days calmly manipulating co-workers into doing the unthinkable before retreating to his icily chic apartment, stripping naked and curling up in a cardboard box for the night.
